These sturdy little houses are a cinch to make, thanks to Decovil. We've got a few tips for you here to prevent the tabs from becoming a problem.
Decovil I is an iron-on Vilene non-woven with a leather-like handle that is ideally suited for creating hats, belts, bags, fabric baskets, and more. Sturdy, yet cuddlier than pelmet interfacing as well as kink-resistant, Decovil is simplicity itself to sew – for further information see www.vlieseline.de (in 6 languages).
Cut out the Decovil as per the pattern piece. Whether the door is cut out right away or not depends on the later construction steps. If the door opening is to be edged later with bias binding, the arch can be cut afterwards, as shown here in the photo. Place Decovil with its coated side to the wrong side of a generously cut-out rectangle of outer fabric. Cover with a damp cloth and press the iron (set to ‘wool‘) carefully, for about 6 seconds in each spot. Once Decovil has been applied, let pieces cool flat for about 30 minutes for reliable adhesion.
Cut two rectangles – both slightly larger than the Decovil – from lining and outer fabric. Place fabrics right sides facing and stitch together at the sides and bottom right next to (i.e. about 2mm from) the edge of the Decovil. Trim seam allowances in the bottom corners and turn.

Top edge: Trim seam allowances at top of lining straight and turn under. Clip seam allowances of outer fabric vertically right next to the tabs and turn under seam allowance of top edge also. Stitch top edges together with a zigzag.
Sew 2 cm of hook tape onto each tab from the right side. Using a zigzag stitch will stop the fabric edges fraying further.
Working the entrance with bias binding: Draw arch on fabric. Sew over with a straight stitch to prevent lining from slipping. Cut out arch. Bind edges with bias binding.

Embellish house as it takes your fancy. Sew wall into a ring. For this, attach overlock foot no. 2a. Place edges together. With a medium-wide zigzag stitch, guide the edges so that the needle penetrates in the fabric on the left and on the right outside of the pin, whilst the fabric edges run past the pin on the left. Loosen thread tension if required. Secure seam well. Now pull seam open so that the Decovil lies edge-to-edge.
